Procedure of Lesson Plan (edited version)

1) 5 minutes - Introduction
  • Teacher greets students and asks how they feel that morning. Have they taken their breakfast or not.
  • “Good Morning”
  • “How are you feeling today?”
  • “Have you taken your breakfast yet?”
  • “We are going to try and practise our speaking skill today.”

2) 15 minutes - Giving instruction
  • Teacher has prepared a list of 20 hobbies or interests and writes them on the white board.
  • Next, each student has to choose only one interest.
  • Teacher needs to make sure that every student chooses different kinds of interest.
  • Then, students need to choose their partner.
  • Teacher will play a video found on the internet on how to speak in public for 5 minutes.
  • Teacher will then explain the purpose of the video presentation to the students.
  • The video is used as a guide for students to speak fluently and confidently in public.
  • The video also gives ideas to students to come out with good vocabulary and help students to get the right pronunciation.

3) 20 minutes - Discussion
  • Each couple is given 10 minutes to elaborate their interests briefly.
  • While the students are discussing and elaborating among them, they need to check on words that they cannot pronounce using the Speech Synthesizer software which has been installed earlier in each of the computer before them.
  • During this session, teacher will visit the groups one after another and check whether students are really discussing on the issues that they are supposed to discuss or not. At the same time, teacher observes students on how they get themselves to work in a pair.
  • Teacher provides two links of online dictionary, English-English dictionary and Malay-English dictionary.
  • Students must refer to both online dictionaries to get the correct vocabulary and pronunciation.
  • Once all of them have finished sharing their interests with their partners, the teacher will give out an evaluation form to every student.
  • Next, teacher will explain the purpose of filling in the form as well as every aspect listed in it to all students.

4) 30 minutes - Presentation
  • Teacher will require each student to present about his or her partner’s hobby or interest in front of the class for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Teacher picks randomly which student needs to present first and his or her partner will go next.
  • This procedure will go on until all students have presented.

5) 10 minutes - Ending
  • Students will be given marks based on their performance in the public speaking session and also in the pair discussion.
  • Their presentation will be commented by the teacher.
  • Marks will be given by their friends for the presentation through the provided evaluation form and teacher for the public speaking as well as the pair discussion.

Reflection:
Designing a lesson plan is a daily routine for a teacher in order to successfully run his or her class. Just imagine, a group of four students has been given a task to construct a lesson plan in which none of them is familiar with. The mission started with a blank mind and zero ideas. After several meetings and discussions, we came out with the idea to design a lesson plan based on speaking and communication skills which are in lined with our blog's theme, Phonetics and Phonology of English.

Moreover, in the process of making this lesson plan, we faced quite a number of problems. For instance, lack of communication by one of the group members has dragged us to have a meeting with the course instructor. One vital key point that is being reminded to every one of us in the group by the course instructor is the importance of communication in making a group work works.

Though there are sour faces initially, we managed to get rid of that unsatisfied feelings and get on with the group work and the assignment. We asked around, the research assistant, friends and the course instructor herself in order to improve and improvise our lesson plan. Another obstacle that we experienced during the process of making this lesson plan is finding the full version of speech synthesizer software. Most of the software that we found on the internet are just a trial version and will only be valid for 20 times of usage.

Luckily, we solved this problem and here it is, the lesson plan is ready and presented before your eyes. The moral that we obtained from designing and constructing this lesson plan is we need to have a system in order for us to arrange and manage ourselves accordingly. We also need to synchronize everything in order to make our life run smoothly as well as to plan on what should we do and where should we proceed next after every action that we have done and the most important thing is how to make the plan works. If the plan is being interrupted by some external matters, so be it. That is life, we as the human beings are only capable to plan but the one who determines whether the plan is going to work or not is the Almighty.

However, we find the lesson plan to be very interesting because the students participated and enjoyed it very much. Hopefully students can acquire speaking and communication skills with the help of the activities arranged by the teacher. Furthermore, students are also expected to level up their proficiency in using computer when they use the Speech Synthesizer software, online dictionary and video streaming.

Our Presentation
Hye all!
We have done with our presentation on the lesson plan.
Alia and Rika have wholeheartedly presented our group.
Personally, I think they were okay and very convincing, thanks girls!
Dr. Rozina commented on the video that we've chosen, it was problematic!
But she suggested several ways to improve our lesson plan.
Hopefully, we'll do better next time.
Ciao!

New Template
Feb 7, 2009
Good morning!
Afifah says:
Alia, Rika and Nasuha, I think we should change the template.
At first, it looked cool but it's very difficult to edit the left and right bars because our blog is now using a classic type of template.
What say you?

Lesson Plan
Feb 5, 2009
Hye all!
Alhamdulillah, we've finished constructing our lesson plan.
We should be presenting it this afternoon but unfortunately, Dr. Rozina couldn't make it to class, she's not very well.
Rika was quite relieved but Alia was disappointed because she wanted to focus on other things this weekend.
Be patient ye Alia!
Our blog is still under construction.
Kami budak-budak baru belajar, maklum lah.
Mmm... need to find other templates.
Happy hols!
