Procedure of Lesson Plan (edited version)
1) 5 minutes - Introduction
- Teacher greets students and asks how they feel that morning. Have they taken their breakfast or not.
- “Good Morning”
- “How are you feeling today?”
- “Have you taken your breakfast yet?”
- “We are going to try and practise our speaking skill today.”
2) 15 minutes - Giving instruction
- Teacher has prepared a list of 20 hobbies or interests and writes them on the white board.
- Next, each student has to choose only one interest.
- Teacher needs to make sure that every student chooses different kinds of interest.
- Then, students need to choose their partner.
- Teacher will play a video found on the internet on how to speak in public for 5 minutes.
- Teacher will then explain the purpose of the video presentation to the students.
- The video is used as a guide for students to speak fluently and confidently in public.
- The video also gives ideas to students to come out with good vocabulary and help students to get the right pronunciation.
3) 20 minutes - Discussion
- Each couple is given 10 minutes to elaborate their interests briefly.
- While the students are discussing and elaborating among them, they need to check on words that they cannot pronounce using the Speech Synthesizer software which has been installed earlier in each of the computer before them.
- During this session, teacher will visit the groups one after another and check whether students are really discussing on the issues that they are supposed to discuss or not. At the same time, teacher observes students on how they get themselves to work in a pair.
- Teacher provides two links of online dictionary, English-English dictionary and Malay-English dictionary.
- Students must refer to both online dictionaries to get the correct vocabulary and pronunciation.
- Once all of them have finished sharing their interests with their partners, the teacher will give out an evaluation form to every student.
- Next, teacher will explain the purpose of filling in the form as well as every aspect listed in it to all students.
4) 30 minutes - Presentation
- Teacher will require each student to present about his or her partner’s hobby or interest in front of the class for about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Teacher picks randomly which student needs to present first and his or her partner will go next.
- This procedure will go on until all students have presented.
5) 10 minutes - Ending
- Students will be given marks based on their performance in the public speaking session and also in the pair discussion.
- Their presentation will be commented by the teacher.
- Marks will be given by their friends for the presentation through the provided evaluation form and teacher for the public speaking as well as the pair discussion.
