Procedure for Lesson Plan (original version)
1) 5 minutes - Introduction
- Teacher greets the students and asks how they feel this morning. Have they taken their breakfast or not.
- "Good morning."
- "How are you feeling today?"
- "Have you taken your breakfast yet?"
- "We are going to try and practise our speaking skill today."
2) 10 minutes - Giving instruction
- Teacher has prepared a list of 20 hobbies or interests and writes them on the white board.
- Next, each person has to choose only one interest.
- The teacher needs to make sure that each person chooses different kinds of interest.
- Then, the students need to choose their partner.
- The teacher will play a video found on the internet on how to speak in public for 2 to 3 minutes.
- The purpose of the video is to guide students on how to speak fluently and confidently in public.
- The video also gives ideas to students to come out with good vocabulary and helps students to get the right pronunciation.
3a) 25 minutes - Discussion (pair work)
- Each couple is given five minutes to elaborate their interests briefly.
- While the students are discussing and elaborating among them, they need to check on words that they cannot pronounce using the Speech Synthesizer software which has been installed earlier in each of the computer before them.
- The teacher provides two links of online dictionary, English-English dictionary and Malay-English dictionary.
- The dictionary will help students to minimize the usage of Malay and to understand clearly each word that they will use during the public speaking session.
- Teacher must ensure that no student uses Malay words in their discussion.
- They need to get the correct vocabulary and pronunciation.
- Once all of them have finished sharing their interests with their partners, the teacher will give out an evaluation form to every student.
3b) 30 minutes - Presentation
- Next, each student is required to present about his or her partner's hobby or interest in front of the class for about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Teacher picks randomly which student needs to present first and his or her partner will go next.
- This procedure will go on until all of the students have presented.
4) 10 minutes - Ending
- Students will be given marks based on their performance.
- Their presentation will be commented by the teacher.
- Marks will be given by their friends and teacher.
